Unterfrankenhalle now known as LINDE MH ARENA

25 Sept 2024

Linde Material Handling sponsors municipal event hall in Aschaffenburg

It is now official: The Unterfrankenhalle in Aschaffenburg will be renamed the LINDE MH ARENA. To mark the occasion, high-ranking representatives of the city of Aschaffenburg and Linde Material Handling (MH) met on site for a press event.

There are a number of good reasons for Linde MH to take over the naming rights as the new sponsor for an initial period of five years. First and foremost is the company’s clear commitment to the Aschaffenburg location. The recently expanded headquarters of the global materials handling and logistics specialist is located at Carl-von-Linde-Platz in the Schweinheim district of Aschaffenburg, and the KION Group’s largest forklift plant is located in Aschaffenburg-Nilkheim. Originally founded as Güldner-Motoren-Werke, the company has been based in Aschaffenburg since back in 1907. Other locations in the Lower Main region of Bavaria include Weilbach and Kahl am Main. Today, Linde MH is the largest employer in the region, with a workforce of approximately 3,700. Over the course of its 120-year history, the manufacturer of industrial trucks and provider of automated material flow solutions has developed into one of the world’s leading companies in the industry. Since 2021, the Unterfrankenhalle has been the venue for the StaplerCup finals, a sporting event in which forklift drivers compete against each other and demonstrate their skills, while promoting greater occupational safety and raising awareness of their profession. This year, the StaplerCup has become the “Forklift World Championship”. For the first time, world championship titles will be awarded in three disciplines on October 25 and 26.

To mark the renaming of Unterfrankenhalle in LINDE MH ARENA, high-ranking representatives of the city of Aschaffenburg and Linde Material Handling (MH) met on site (from left to right): Jürgen Herzing, Lord Mayor of Aschaffenburg, Ulrike Just, Executive Vice President Sales & Service Linde MH EMEA, Andreas Krinninger, CEO of Linde Material Handling and member of the KION Executive Board, as well as Helmut Maier, Head of the Office for Sport, Health, and Town Twinning.

“Aschaffenburg is the home of Linde Material Handling and our red forklifts. That’s why we were delighted to take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to our brand hometown by lending our name to the Unterfrankenhalle,” said Andreas Krinninger, CEO of Linde Material Handling and a member of the KION Executive Board, in a brief speech. The name may be a bit cumbersome to read and pronounce, but shortening it could cause it to be confused with the British industrial gases and engineering company Linde plc. Jürgen Herzing, Lord Mayor of Aschaffenburg, is delighted with the new naming sponsor: “We are very pleased to have this significant support. The sponsorship will make Linde MH even more visible in the city, which does justice to the company’s position and importance.”

The event calendar includes a wide variety of cultural and sporting events, such as handball matches of the TV Großwallstadt or the traditional indoor soccer Brass Cup, with many traditional German clubs participating. The multi-purpose hall is also used for school and club sports, as well as a venue for the “Berufswegekompass”, a career guidance event organized by the Junior Chamber, where numerous regional companies present their training and study programs every fall and offer students a platform for career orientation.
